Canadian Government Invests $153 million in Plant-Based Proteins

The Government of Canada has announced it will invest $153 million, matched dollar-for-dollar by the private sector, to make Canada a world leader in the growing market for plant-based proteins.

The funding goes towards creating the Protein Industries Canada Supercluster, and will create more than 4,500 jobs and add more than $4.5 billion to Canada’s economy over 10 years.

Canada’s innovation minister Navdeep Bains said our agriculture industry has excellent potential for growth, given the “increasing global demand for plant-based protein.”

The vision of Protein Industries Canada is to “position Canada globally as a leading source of high-quality plant protein and plant based co-products, developed in a carbon neutral production environment, while substantially contributing to Canada’s economic growth and international trade balance.”
